Together the two teams spent one of the final days of summer out in the sun preparing for the upcoming fall growing season by pulling weeds, planting this seasons squash, and harvesting the previous season’s squash and watermelon.

What makes this high school farm project unique is the fact that they are partnered with Solutions for Urban Agriculture, the Orange County Food Bank, OC Farm Bureau, & the Westminster High School Agriculture Program.

The Giving Farm is a program that works directly with the OC Food bank, and expects to deliver over 200,000 pounds of produce annually for low-income communities. The program’s purpose is to promote student and community engagement in the California agricultural industry, they also provide nutrition education about the importance of healthy eating and active lifestyles for at-risk youth.

This was a great partnerships, as the Karma Squad has previously volunteered with the OC Food Bank at packaging events too for several years! Check out our latest event with them here.
